Hi! I’m planning a Japan trip and looking for something more hands-on and thoughtful than a standard travel agent or generic itinerary.
I’m hoping to find someone who can essentially act as a travel research + curation assistant — someone who can take my taste, preferences, and inspiration, and turn it into a really well-organized, personalized itinerary.
Context:
I have a ton of saved content — especially TikToks (probably \~200+), plus articles, lists, and recommendations — and I want someone to actually go through all of it and turn it into something usable.
So this is not just “plan me a trip” — it’s:
👉 take all my saved content and layer in your own research
👉 organize everything beautifully
👉 build a thoughtful, realistic itinerary
What I’m looking for:
1. Go through all my saved content (including \~200 TikToks)
• Extract all locations, tips, restaurants, cafés, activities, etc.
• Capture any useful notes or context from the videos/articles
• Deduplicate and filter for quality
2. Understand my taste / vibe
• This is important — I don’t want a generic itinerary
• I care about great food, aesthetic cafés, unique experiences, good shopping, etc.
• Prefer curated, high-quality spots over touristy checklists
3. Do additional research
• Fill in gaps with your own recommendations
• Find places that align with my style (not just what I’ve already saved)
• Help prioritize what’s actually worth it
4. Build a structured database
• Google Sheet or Notion with:
• City (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc.)
• Categories (restaurants, cafés, desserts, shopping, experiences)
• Notes / why it’s interesting
• Source (TikTok, article, etc.)
5. Create a highly organized Google Map (this is huge for me)
• Save *every* location mentioned
• Clean, labeled pins (not just dumping everything in one list)
• Separate labels/layers like:
• 🍣 Food
• ☕️ Cafés
• 🍰 Desserts
• 🛍 Shopping
• 🎎 Experiences / sights
• Something I can actually use while walking around
6. Build a day-by-day itinerary
• Logical geographic clustering (no zig-zagging across the city)
• Neighborhood-based days (e.g., Shibuya day, Asakusa/Ueno day, etc.)
• Balanced pacing (not overly packed, but not missing key things)
• Clear “must-do” vs “nice-to-have”
7. (Optional bonus)
• Put everything into a tool like Wanderlog for easy access during the trip
Why I’m looking to outsource this:
I could do it myself, but realistically this feels like a 10–15+ hour (probably more) project and I know I’ll go down a rabbit hole trying to make it perfect.
This feels like the perfect task for:
• A travel planner
• A virtual assistant
• A college student who loves travel and organizing
• Someone who genuinely enjoys this kind of work
What I care about in the person:
• Strong attention to detail
• Good taste / aesthetic sense (not just copying tourist lists)
• Ability to think through geography + flow
• Ideally has planned trips before (bonus if familiar with Japan)
Questions:
• Does a service like this exist? What would this even be called?
• Where would you recommend finding someone (Upwork, Fiverr, Reddit, etc.)?
• Has anyone hired someone for something like this before?
• What’s a reasonable price range for a project like this?
I’m happy to pay fairly for high-quality work — I just want it done well and in a way that actually makes my trip easier and better.
Would really appreciate any recommendations or direction 🙏
