Would you give up a fully remote job for a better long term career
I’m torn between staying in a fully remote role or taking a hybrid opportunity that seems better for long-term growth.
Current role:
\* Fully remote
\* $72.5k salary + inconsistent bonus
\* Flexible schedule, occasional travel
\* BUT: role is unclear, expectations aren’t well-defined, and my performance has slipped recently
New opportunity:
\* Project Manager role (structured PMO environment)
\* $75k + up to 5% bonus
\* Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 remote), 17 min commute
\* Clear responsibilities, better career path, strong 401k match
Personal context:
\* Married with a newborn
\* I value remote work a lot, but also want stability, growth, and higher earning potential long-term
My dilemma:
Remote gives me freedom and time at home, but I’m not growing the way I want.
Hybrid seems like a step forward in my career, but I’d be giving up full remote.
For those who’ve been in similar situations:
Would you prioritize keeping a remote role or take a structured opportunity that could lead to better long-term outcomes?
Also—how realistic is it to move back into a remote role later after gaining more experience?
Appreciate any insights.
